On Tuesday 22 May the year 3 students, together with Mr. Andre Steyn, Dr. Leon van Achterbergh and Mr. Kevin Aitchison, attended the annual Application Training at Woodlands Backpackers in Kenton on Sea. The purpose of the training is to prepare students for life during internship and get them thinking about their future careers within the hospitality industry. This year we were joined by Dr. van Achterbergh (previous Academic Dean SSA) who offered a wealth of information about how students should approach their internship, the attitude they should have and the expectations the industry has of them. Dr. van Achterbergh has a wealth of knowledge regarding the industry and has been coordinating student placements for many years, his input was invaluable and we would like to thank him for attending. Mr. Steyn took the students through an industry orientation session while Mr. Aitchison covered the academic requirements that need to be completed before students are eligible to graduate. The Executive Dean of Stenden SA, Dr. Wouter Hensens also joined for a short while in the evening to speak to the students about what to expect while on internship. Feedback from the students was extremely positive and the informal setting allowed for good conversation and a chance for the group to get to know one another outside of the classroom. We look forward to returning in module 3.
